Our classic Olde Fold design wallet, handmade from colored Dacron sailcloth. The interior material, is made from a thin 5 ounce (per square yard) Dacron sailcloth in forest green, while the Backing is made from a bit heavier 8 ounce (sq/yd) Dacron sailcloth in the classic "Tanbark" brown color. The wallet is lightweight and thin. The fabrics are water resistant.
The term "Tanbark" refers to the historical practice of staining canvas sails in tubs of water soaked in Oak bark, which is rich in tannins. This helped prevent the cotton or hemp sails from developing mold or mildew, and also provide some UV protection from the sun, making them more durable and long lasting.
The fabric used in this wallet is colored Dacron polyester, not stained from Oak bark, but simply a nod to sailmaking traditions.
